In more detail...
I’m a listener, synthesizer of information, and communicator who uses the elements of design—type, color, image, composition—to give form to content, inflect meaning, and build resonant, flexible, and memorable visual systems that help you tell your story, connect to your people, and advance your mission.
By way of a professional introduction, I serve as Creative Director at Sametz Blackstone Associates, where I've been developing brands and building communications since 2009.
Prior to moving to Blackstone Square, I honed my design skills at Stoltze Design, where I was Senior Art Director at the conclusion of a very productive seven year tenure.
My work has appeared in Print and How magazines, and recent work for Olin College of Engineering, The Wheeler School, and MassArt have won awards from CASE and UCDA.
I began teaching introductory and intermediate graphic design courses at Northeastern University in 2005 and continue to be inspired and challenged by my students. I'm currently teach Identity and Brand Design, Typography 2, and Degree Project, the capstone course sequence for graduating design majors.
In addition to practicing graphic design, I occasionally show my photographic and collage work, and my commissioned photography has been featured in several of my design projects.
I'm a proud husband and father of two, a home owner, a collector (of books, photographic miscellanea, moka pots, and other objects of beauty), and a committed advocate of walkability and public transportation who dreams of traveling the country pulling an airstream or other tiny dwelling (and I do recognize the inherent conflict between these last two statements).
Before moving to Boston, I completed my MFA in graphic design at the Yale University School of Art. Prior to that, I worked in event management and as a independent designer.
I graduated with highest honors in philosophy from Emory University in 1999. I was raised in Nashua, NH—voted more than once and by more than one publication as the number one place to live in these United States.
Recognition
Recent work for MassArt, The Wheeler School, Olin College of Engineering, and Harvard College has been recognized in the annual UCDA (University and College Design Association) design competiton.
My work has also been recognized by CASE District 1 and has been featured in Print and How magazines.
I've presented on branding and visual systems at CASE District 1 and have been a guest critic at RISD, UConn, and Keene State.
